Alpha impeller by-pass

Does anyone here have any experience with using an alpha for water intake for a raw water pump instead of using the impeller in the outdrive?

you still need the impeller in the outdrive for drive cooling even if you do something like a bravo style pump and separate pickup.

There has been a couple times folks have tried it, but don't remember how well it worked. You will need to change the hose from the transom plate going to the pump to hard wall hose, and remove the drive impeller
