Getting ready to replace the center/middle piston on a 50 hp mercury(3 cylinder)
can someone tell me if the power head will need to be removed, crankshaft will need to come out, etc...

any ideas how many hours this will take, what it would cost to have a shop do the job, etc...

At this point in time I'm thinking that a lean condition is/was the culprit
however upon tear down & inspection will be keeping a close eye out for the root of the problem

Also have plans to overhaul all the carbs, treating fuel system , marine sta-bil, extra oil in gas for break-in, etc...

Thanks for the help

Carmstrong;

As your engine is a 2005, here is the service manual:

http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals/Service Manual PDFs/TwoStroke/852572r1/cover.pdf

Scroll down the page and you can download the various component sections to your computer or just view online if you wish.

I am having the same issue / same engine. Can someone help me with a service manual or explain why I can not open the old link?

That site is now closed.

If you send me a PM with a valid email address, I will send you a copy of the manual, 90-852572.
