I just bought a 1979 50hp mercury outboard. The engine worked fine when I fired it up but there isn't any water coming out of the engine. I think they call it the "telltale". I ran the engine for about 2 to 3 minutes and it shut off. The engine was hot. What should I do? Where is the telltale located on this engine? How do I replace or repair the pump? If there is anyone out there that can assist me, please respond. I NEED HELP!!!!

the first thing to do is get a manual for your motor, it will help you out alot. you have to pull the lower unit off to change the impeller and that is the first thing you should do if its not pumping water

looking at your motor from the back, the telltale hose should be located at the top of the block with the hose hooked to a fitting on the block. sometimes the hose will get plugged up so check that too
