Re: Mercontrol rebuild

I have the same motor and control unit as you. to my knowledge there arn't any rebuild kits. if I were you I would browse ebay and craigslist for a replacement.

Re: Mercontrol rebuild

there are parts available. sierra has throttle cams and ignition switch's, but your asking for every part. better to look for a good replacement. what exactly is the trouble your having?

Re: Mercontrol rebuild

The control has alot of play in it, and someone told me the the cams or some other small part is probaly worn out, and I was just going to change the ignition and choke while i was in there..............and my wiring harness is fried.................thanks for theinfo guys :)...............do people sell a replacment control with the wiring harness already attached?...............................

...
Can you guys tell me where to find craigslist? and I can't find anything on sierra's site(not sure i found the right site?),
It would be awesome to buy a whole control with wiring harness

Re: Mercontrol rebuild

Cool, thanks man:)...............that makes sense that it's the throttle cam, because it shifts fine.

Re: Mercontrol rebuild

when my throttle cam was worn, it would go about half way up before the throttle increased, but on the way down, it idled down to about a quarter throttle. sometimes if its just sloppy, it can be a simple cable adjustment. should be a slight bit of preload from the cable

Re: Mercontrol rebuild

if you change the wiring harness, it might be a good idea to change the ignition switch with it. when you open it up, you'll see how tricky some of them are to resolder

Re: Mercontrol rebuild

I am thinking the first one will work?........any idea if it will work with my control? :)

Re: Mercontrol rebuild

i believe they both would work. they are designed for the newer controllers that have the choke operate by pushing in the key. I'm partial to the seperate choke button, but thats what i'm used to.

Re: Mercontrol rebuild

I opened my unit, which is the same as yours a couple of week ago. A good clean up and new grease made a big diference. New cables were the real key. It works smooth now.

The top picture looks like it might be too long to fit in the box. The bottom picture looks smaller.

Re: Mercontrol rebuild

i'm not sure. your right that one is internal. your oem no. for the internal harness should be 52771A2. but i don't know what the external one should be.
it might take a phone call to clarify things as you need the picture to show you the connector pins so you can compare to yours.
