I have twin 1998 merc 150 outboards. The kill switch on one, keeps coming loose, and sopping the engine when it feels like it. (Not good at 35 MPH)

The switch is more dangerous than its purpose..

Any advice for disconnecting it?

Thanks.

Be sure your life insurance is paid; when you disconnect the kill switch, your brain has already disconnected!! Spend a few bucks and get it repaired as this is the most important switch on your boat.

Rather just replace the killswitch with a new one ... they are not that expensive and easy to just replace ....

Maybe you better check your state boating laws. I know every state is different, but here in Alabama any outboard powered vessel with an outboard 50 horsepower or greater must have a kill switch.

Personally, I would not be without one. A very good friend of mine would not have had a large chunk of the muscle in his leg taken off by a propellor if he had been using the kill switch.
