Hey all,

First full weekend out on the new boat. It's equipped with a 2002 Mercury 4 stroke 25 hp bigfoot. A few times, when I went to start the boat, the key did nothing, like there was no electric power of any kind. After fiddling with the switch and the connections on the new battery, it started.

Twice, under WOT (about 4800 rpm with a full boat), the motor completely died. There was a very short beep when this happened. Both times was on the way back to the dock. I was able to get it restarted and got us home. It was almost like someone turned off the key at WOT.

Before I start throwing parts, I'm thinking it might be our ignition switch? Anyone else have thoughts?

Start with the switch.
They are inexpensive, and often cheaply made. and its 18 years old.
