Mercury 110 9.8 shift adjustment

I have a merc 110 9.8 hp engine. I can shift into fprwsrd but then neutral is forward and reverse is neutral. How do I adjust this??

did you have the power head off or the foot off?

Remove lower unit.-------Put lower unit in neutral.-----Put lever in neutral-----Assemble.

No I got it this way. I did not take it apart. Racerone. Will I be able to tell where neutral is in the lower unit?

the splined shift shaft on the 7.5 and 9.8 goes from the power head down to a splined nylon part for the reverse latch. that is where it meets up with the spline shaft from the lower

you should be able to drop the foot, put the lower in neutral with a pliers on the shaft, then re-assemble
