Mercury 1974 distribtor and throttles

Hi,
I need some advise I have 1974 mercury 6500 65hp
I have a problem with distributor and throttle not moving together when accelerating to advance the timing has any body had this problem before and is it a easy fix
thanks for your help

The way it works is... Almost all of the Timing Advance happens with the carbs remaining basically closed, though they do open a little. Once the Maximum Advance is attained, then the carbs open.

Thanks mate the distributor moves buy hand but when you move the accelerator is it meant to with move with it or just at full throttle

When you move the Throttle Linkage, either using the control, or at the engine where the Throttle cable connects the linkage is supposed to advance the timing, first. Part way through the Advance the carbs will open slightly. Once the timing has advanced fully, further movement of the Throttle lever opens the carbs.
