mercury outboad compatible parts?

I have a 73 mercury 500 thunderbolt and a 78 mercury 700. I'm wondering how many parts would be interchangeable. Specifically, I'd like to take the solenoid from the 50 hp and use it as a replacement for the 70 hp. can this be done?

take the parts breakdown for each serial number, and compare.

Yes that can be done if bolt holes line up.------Solenoids do not fail often ??
