know nothing about outboard what oil should I put in the lower unit I also just got the motor and cleaned out the carb. What shall I check or do maintenance on?

As for the oil, seems everybody makes their own oil for any marine foot. Even Walmart has Marine foot oil. So pick your favorite and fill 'er up.

Clean and check the spark plug(s) and look for loose hardware and check the wires for cracks and such. What engine do you have?

That motor needs Lubriplate 105 in the LU. - gear oil leaks past the seals; this has been discussed to death on another forum that deals with old Mercs. The oil mix is 20:1. originally but with today's oils 50:1 would work.

Ok I got some of that lubriplate anything else I need to check are do so it will run a long life
