Gear case compatibility

Tried my best to search on line before posting this, with no luck. I would like to remove the extension and shorten a x long shaft 1995 Force 120hp, with a 20" 1990 Mercury V6 gear case I have. Even if it will bolt on, I read somewhere to be sure length of throw on the shift shaft is same, or could be an issue due to different shift dogs. Does anyone know if the Mercury one is compatible?

Hi. Totally different gear case on the mercs above 115 hp I’m sure. The exception is the big foot I think.
