i am trying to find out what year is this motor, trying to get parts to get it running again. The serial number I can find is 6141509
mercury 40hp

I did a search at marineengine. Their URLs are blocked on the fourm.

This is what I found: Revise Search: All Models > Model 402 40 HP > 3340783 - 7047607 (Canada)
If yours is a two cylinder, this could be your motor.

The decals on this motor clearly show it to be 81 / 82 / 83 model years.
