Alpha 1 gen 1 shaft seal question

Alright folks, I have a very quirky question for you. When installing the upper drive unit shaft oil seals.... what does it mean when it says lips up? Is that the side with the spring showing or no?

well, if thats the case, the seals were installed incorrectly from the manufacturer because per the manual the upper shaft seal is supposed to be installed with the lips facing up towards the drive, and I cal clearly see the spring looking from the bottom and I removed the lower seal already. interesting.....
