What are these and what does it mean? It's self explanatory for the most part I guess but, I thought engines bolted right in? I've never seen this...Look at the second to last engine pic, says fluid engine mounts?

Didn't see where it said that.....looks like any other V-6 Mercuiser...Engine mounted to wood stringers.

Well I see it on the spark arrestor cover - Fluid Engine Mounts/Thunderbolt IV Ignition.

From an ebay listing:

Are these better than mounted right into the wood? Or worse?

they minimize the transfer of vibration to the hull.

I think the 4.3's that had balancer shafts typically came with solid mounts, and non-balancer shaft engines had the viscous mounts.
I doubt they'd ever wear out in a recreational boat.

Ayuh,.... All of our motors have motor mounts,....

The Mounts are still lag bolted into wood,....

The standard mounts are rubber cushioned, rather than the viscous mount in the picture,...
Motor bolts to one end, 'n the stringers/ wood on the other end,...

I think Howard hit it,...
My 4.3 is sittin' on rubber mounts, it's a balance shaft motor,..

Howard's right on...the non balance shaft 4.3 V6's have the fluid mounts to relieve the vibrations

Re: fluid engine mounts on a sea ray

gotcha; so it's not necessarily a bad thing then; just the difference in motors and configuration for mounting the engine.

not bad at all, its just mercruiser's way of alleviating the engine vibrations

like bondo says, his engine has the balance shaft and therefore has solid rubber mounts
