On the top of the lower gear case drive shaft there is an o-ring to prevent water ingress and rust issues on the splines that mate with the upper gear housing. However there is also a seal on the bottom of the upper gear housing for the drive shaft that does the same.
One video on Y-tube says not to put the o-ring on as it damages the seal. Is this correct? Also I have been unable to insert the drive shaft without the seal's spring tensioner being driven off by the o-ring and irrepairably damaged... twice. What is the general consensus when you guys do the impeller service. O-ring on or off?
