Alpha Gen 1 - Assembling upper and lower gear housings

On the top of the lower gear case drive shaft there is an o-ring to prevent water ingress and rust issues on the splines that mate with the upper gear housing. However there is also a seal on the bottom of the upper gear housing for the drive shaft that does the same.

One video on Y-tube says not to put the o-ring on as it damages the seal. Is this correct? Also I have been unable to insert the drive shaft without the seal's spring tensioner being driven off by the o-ring and irrepairably damaged... twice. What is the general consensus when you guys do the impeller service. O-ring on or off?

Leave off...

the newer replacement drives don't even have the groove for the O'ring

Ayuh,.... Skip the o-ring, 'n make sure ya slather the spline with grease,....

Like Eric says, the newer drives don't have the o-ring groove, nor the o-ring,...
