Update on 1981 Glastron SSV 194 MerCruiser 228

Ok, we finally got the old gimbal baring changed, but now the lower shift cable is giving us problems. The old one had to be cut out. Ordered a new one and installed it. The drive didn't want to go on, not even enough to get a bolt threaded. It finally went on with a little assist, but, the sift cable seemed to be binding. Took the drive back off and the cable was bent. It seemed to be too long. We put the old end (Block side) on and it was closer. Any ideas on how to get it too work? I hope I described it correctly.

What was the problem making it so hard to get the drive on, was the engine alignment checked? Maybe some pics would help
