hot battery post

1985 thundercraft merc io 140 hp after testing fuel pump i noticed my battery wire was very hot what would cause this ? short somewhere? and how do i find it? battery was only connected about a minute.

Just like cars or anything else, check the connection.
Loose, corroded, damaged cables cause heat. Clean, tighten (with a wrench), and replace if damaged any connection that is hot when cranking.

Ayuh,... It's probably corroded,...
As Don says, clean 'em up...

Resistance equals Heat in the electrical world, it usually happens at the point of the problem,...
