My new 5.7 gm longblock came with a steel plug in the dipstick tube hole. I tried tapping on it with a small chisel.....no movement. I tried putting locking pliers on it to turn it.....no go. I tried drilling it with a small drill and then tapping it to put a bolt on to get a grip.....broke the tap in the plug. (and i thought it would take 2 minutes to get this plug out and stick the dipstick in)
Now, the head of the plug is gone. the plug is flush with the block. I guess I could pull the oil pan and try to get a drift in there to knock it out....
my question is: Do you think I could knock the plug INTO the oil pan from the outside and fish it out through the drain hole? I hate cracking open that oil pan, new paint, gasket etc.
thanks ED
