Perfect Seal / Permatex Aviation #3 or Ultra RTV

In the process of changing my Alpha 1 Gen 2 impeller for the 1st time. I noticed
the pump housing has a raised lip and the previous owner has a nice gray bead of RTV between the housing and the gasket.

This makes more sense to me than Perfect or Perm AV #3 which deploys a brush for application.

Can I use RTV Ultra Blue, Gray or even Black in place of Perfect Seal or Permatex Aviation #3???

Just seams the "brush on" would be a lot more messier.

Brush the aviation #3 on to the gasket, not the outdrive. No mess. I would stay away from silicone down there. Your boat looks very familiar.

The impeller housing has a "raised lip" to gasket seating....so I was thinking it's better to have a nice sealing bead along the flat surfaces. At least there was a perfectly nice bead of gray RTV when I removed mine.

I threw some rtv in there as well. I gots the same thing but i just did this 2 weeks ago and it was logic for me.
