o.k. I have a 1970 115 hp merc it was setting for 8 months when i bought it.I first had new throttle and shift cables installed, then i took the boat (17.5 ft tri-hull) out and it had lots of power and a top speed of 42 mph @ 5500 rpms. since then i took the boat back out and i lost lots of bottom end power and 7 mph on the top end it only tacks out at 5000 rpm. i have installed new plugs, new fuel filter, still nothing. anyone with advise?

Have you posted this ? in the outboard engine forum? If not, ya might consider doing so. You stand the best chance of getting the info you're looking for in there.

Walt

Re: loss of power

Check for spark on all cylinders. If ok. Next check cylinder compression. Carbs would be next.
