trolling plates

just purchased a 2003 bayliner 1750- 135hp i/o mercruiser with alpha one stern drive- going to be a combo boat-ski,tube fish- any opinions on trolling plates for fishing- looking into cabelas hydro troll-combo plane and troll plate. are these any good?? thanks

try dragging a driftsock(a 5 gallon pail works in a pinch) on each side of the boat to slow down... i think i get better boat control, with my thrust line clear behind the prop.... i've also heard some real horror stories about trying to get on plane, without releasing the lockdown pin.....<br /><br />Bondo
