I have a 1990 Bayliner Capri 20' that I just restored. I am having a problem with the battery post melting. When I crank the boat it gets warm. Till the gas pumps up the post continuest to get hotter and hotter and has melted the post. Once it starts the post cools off. Does anyone have any recommendations as to why and what I should do to correct this problem.

This sounds like more of a problem with the engine than the boat itself. As such, you'd get better answers if this were posted in one of the engine repair sections. If you let me know what motor you have, I'd be happy to move this thread. Welcome to iboats!

If this were mine, I would be starting at the engine block ground cable. Don't just inpect it...take it loose, clean throughly, and reattach securely.

Happy boating!

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,....

I see that you have 2 Problems,....
1st off, the motor needs a Tune Up,+ probably a Full Service...
You shouldn't have to Crank it on the starter so Long to start it....
Something is Wrong,.. Fix it...
The Other thing is, as noted, your wiring needs to have All the connections taken apart, Cleaned,+ reinstalled...
The Heat causing the melted battery is because of Resistence from corroded connections,...
The Melted 1 was no doubt the Worse 1...

Or just a Cranked out Beat starter... which wouldn't surprise me either....

And make sure you are tightening the connections at the battery with a wrench or pliers-hand tightened wing nuts are a disaster waiting to happen. 'nutcase

If you do have wingnuts, ditch them and get locking stainless steel nuts.

In order to give advice, I would need at least inside and outside photos of your boat :D
