easy, rather less hard way to get upper gimbal swivel shaft out

bravo II outdrive, 1994, u-bolt, not two bolts. swivel shaft appears to be iron/steel-gimbal housing aluminum. the expected results.
u-bolt can't be removed without the gimbal out of the way. no way to get to the top of the shaft to pound down. i suspect that i will try to use two wedges avoiding the u-bolt and heat to finally remove.

any better ideas. i'd post a pic but there's nothing to see. did see some sort of removal took but i can't see that the hole in the bottom of the shaft is threaded. seloc/clymer books are no help that i can see but don't mind being proven wrong

You loosen the U bolt, not remover it . there should be a threaded hole in the bottom of the pin for a slide hammer or threaded rod /spacer/ nut
