  • Mercruiser 470 starter options

I have bought a 23 footer with a Mercruiser 470, year 1986. In general, the 470 engine seems to be cranking slow, when looking at youtube videos, mine is no exception. On another boat I have, with a 4.3 V6, there is a gear reduction starter, very nice starter, small but powerfull. It would be nice to change the starter on the 470 engine with a similar type. A little googling around reveals that the 470 starters also works on some Crusader inboards. So my question is, has anybody installed a hi-torque gear reduction starter on a 470 engine ?
If you can't fix it, don't break it.
