1) Does my '89 3.0L have a shutter in the exhaust pipe ? I so, can I tell if it's there or is working, without tearing the exhaust down-pipe apart ?

2) My exhaust belows has a cut on the bottom of the rib nearest the bell-housing creating a flap that covers a pea size hole that produces a sputtery leak when running and a steady drip when turned off. A dealer told me it has to be replaced, which I would do if I had lots of time and money..... but from threads on here, it seems unnecessary since a tube style not even connected to the bell housing appears to be a legit option. Please advise !

Ayuh,...... #1,.... They're supposed to be at the top of the down-pipe,.....

Ya gotta peek under the rubber coupler at the top of the pipe,......

#2,..... The exhaust is "Wet", from the shutters on out, when sittin' in the water, motor off,.....

A ripped exhaust bellows, by itself, won't sink a boat,......

exhaust bellows are generally vented with a drain hole
