Bravo III (yr 2000): Testing steering cable for slack

There is no play in the drive or gimble ring. Approx 4" of play in the wheel where it moves freely.I suspect the cable is stretching - it was fine for most of the season and then it started getting very loose. Is there an easy way to test it. It is likely the original cable so it is 19 years old. Gimble ring was replaced last year.

pin 4 goes to the steering arm if the drive moves and the arm does not your loose there .If no play try to move drive side to side and watch pin 5.If the steering cylinder moves and the steering wheel do not, play in cable or helm
