1991 powerquest couching

hey guys.
i have a 1991 powerquest twin 454’s.
Just got it in the water port engine is running fine.
starboard engine was ideling low so I bumped it up.
took it for a spin noticed at 3000 rpm it would cough ever now and then so came back and at the dock I noticed out of gear when I bring the RPM’s up to 2000
it will fall to 1000 then go back up to 2000 all by itself.
so is it a fuel pressure problem or carb issue?
igntion? It just had a tune up. I checked the firing order just to rule that out and I looked under the cap to make sure nothing funny was going on.

I’m gonna pull the filter out of the carb and see what it looks like.
its a 4 barrel qudrajet.

anybody ever had issues like this?

Carb or fuel issue?

and watched my tach go from 2000 to a 1000 all by itself and go back to 2000 and down to 1000.
so is this a fuel pressure problem or carb?

it just had a tuneup I checked under the cap for anything funny and I checked the firing order also.

I’m gonna check the fuel filter in the carb.

its a 4 barrel Quadra junk.

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... I'd start by inspectin' the contents of the fuel filters for anything but clean fresh gasoline,......

for some reason my first post said it didn’t post lol so now there are two sorry guys.

I’m thinking it’s not a tank issue because both engines share the same tank but I will pull that filter in the carb hopefully it’s dirty and I’m gonna replace the fuel water separator also. If it’s one or both I’ll be happy. Those are easy and cheap.
