Gimbal bearing-retaining clip

I am replacing the gimbal bearing on a 1973 Mercruiser Stern and didn’t notice the retaining clip in front of the bearing. So the bearing came out, with clip and... a sliver of the bell housing the held the clip in place :-/

I know there are some alpha ones that don’t have the clip so I guess I am wondering if I can just press in new bearing and not worry about it??

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,..... So long as it drives in, against good resistance, that's what I would do,......
