I was looking at installing an aftermarket remote oil filter kit to my 5.0 (see attached)

Any thoughts or advise using / installing this kit ?

Orientation of remote filter ?

Also can I use the OEM oil filter ?

Thanks

Nothing wrong with the kit, you may need to change the bypass valve,

Most of those kits use a different filter (many recommend a Fram PH8A or equivalant, read the instructions)

Look up the "grumpy's garage" site and start reading

Its in the housing adapter you currently thread the oil filter onto

Thanks Scott,

I asked the supplier and was advised it uses 13/16 -16 chev oil filter ?

Will that be OK ?

I suggest you look up filters by dimensions on the Wix site

The 13/16-16 thread hasnt been used in decades by GM. You will need to look up filter by dimensions to get the part number

You need to go to a 30psi bypass vs the 11psi that is there when you plumb a remote filter

And you need to look up a full flow, anti drain back filter that fits the remote head seal land and threads that fits the area you mount it

So both.... Wix has the best filter look up

Sorry Scott im even more confused now.....

Go to the grumpy's garage site....and start reading about SBC oiling systems.

Places like NAPA, Summit Racing, etc carry the bypass valve

Not sure what the fuss about changing the bypass valve is all about. I added a non-genuine remote filter to my old 4.3LX, just the adapter, housing and a couple of lengths of hose. Ran 14 years in my hands without a problem, and as far as I know, still running... Just remember to add extra oil to the sump to compensate for the hoses. ;)

I just checked the parts diagrams, and the bypass valve on engine without a remote filter is the same part number (ie same part) as with a remote oil filter...
