Alright guys I am confused. Motor is in, getting ready to adjust new lower shift cable.

98 Mercrusier BajaIslander 7.4l Mpi Bravo one.

In my Mercruiser service manual #11. On page 2A-35 they show using a plastic (part #91-12427) adjusting tool and a lengthy procedure.

Then on page 4A-26(same manual) they show a much shorter adjusting procedure using a two piece steel adjustment tool set.(91-17262).

Are these two ways to get to the same place.
Which one do I want?

2A-35 is used to adjust cable without drive being installed

4A-26 (actually pages prior) are to adjust older style cable which requires cable specific procedures

The bottom of 4A-26 is just about plug and play. If you have the new style cable which has the barrel nut penned in place. Just make sure the 3 inch dimension on the shift plate has been adjusted, and install the cable
