I am finishing up a full restoration on my 94 GW Invader Rivera, and am now working on replacing seals, water pump, etc in the drive unit (Alpha 1 Gen 2, standard rot). I have finished the upper housing work, now am moving to the lower gear housing.
I had planned on pulling the drive shaft/pinion assembly to get down to a empty foot, but am now questioning that... I have the bearing carrier nut tool and a puller, but have not bought a drive shaft retainer wrench or the pinion nut adapter yet. And from reading other posts, it seems like this process my be quite involved...
Is it worth buying those tools and pulling the drive shaft just to ensure everything is clean/sealed, and ready to go? There was some water getting into the drive oil last season, but I believe the upper seals should take care of that. Other than that, it has been just fine.
Thoughts?
