I finished up 22 yr. deep maintenance this winter, changing serviceable good parts just because I had access.

I've never touched the dist. cap, rotor or plug and dist wires 'cause the engine has been running great. But This is the last maintenance point I haven't touched, and I'd like to get at 100%.

My '96 Merc manual #18 4.3 LX says the rotor is locktited on, and a heat gun will free it up. I learned 46 yrs. ago to not force something else get into deeper do-do.

Will my heat gun free it up without complications?

just break the old rotor off, clean the shaft, and install the new rotor

it should, however I simply squeeze them with my vice grips which shatters the rotor, clean off the loctite with my pocket knife and don't put anything on to hold it in place (never understood why the originals were loctited in place)
