Hey everyone! I inherited a 1989 Mercury 3.7 lx ( I know, lol). There is so much play in the distributor that the rotor is chewing up the cap after running for some time. Has anyone run into such troubles? Also, is there somewhere that I can bu a complete distributor with electronic ignition already built in? Thank in advance!!

Just get a new $5 distributor bushing from napa. You will need to pull your distributor apart first to verify id, od, and length of the bushings.

Pull distributor from motor, knock out roll pin out of distributor gear, pull shaft, replace bushings.

You may have to pull the points mounting plate.

if You are not up to a diy, take it to an auto-electric shop and have them do it. They should also be able to check the advance curve to make sure the advances springs and weights are in good shape.
