Good catch though....

No they didn't and it doesn't stop here,

They replaced the alternator and left the red/purple wire loose. still not sure what it does....
They replaced the water pump and connected the hoses the wrong way around.
They replaced part of the ignition and didn't reconnect the shift interrupter.
They also checked the rest of the wiring and wrapped the engine wire harness in plastic tubing which was left lying on the engine so those melted to pulp.
They also replaced the starter, bellows, bearing, spark plugs, oil + filters and they rebuild the carb.
Al was done for the grand total of 3500 euro's.......
and they did a standup job!
Its not my style to name name's but its tempting tho!

Ouch! For that I would have flown over and done it for you (bed and breakfast included :))

The red/purple lead on the alternator is the excitation lead. That provides power for the alternator to begin charging as soon as the engine is running.

:D that's good to know!
I know it's ridiculous right?! I've dropped them an email see what they have to say.

So if i understand correctly without that wire the batteries wont charge?
I think I found the other end of the lead, its wrapped in tape with the black wire i think....

ok so its the sensing lead and not the excitation lead, bit confused now
I don''t think the wires are actualy connected just wrapped in tape together.

The sense lead (Red/Purple) reads battery voltage and comes from the 50 amp breaker
The excitation lead (Purple) turns the ALT on when the key is turned ON

Just connect the Red/Purple to the lead at position A and Purple in position B as shown in post 8

The red/purple on the alt needs to be connected to the red/purple in the harness. Appears to be the one which is taped with the black one

Switched arround the cooling hoses, makes me wonder how this has worked for the last two months??
looking at it found another problem I'll open a new post for that.
unwrapped the red cable from the black and connected it to the loose cable from the alternator.
Voltage gauge on the helm now nicely show 14 something instead of 15-16 V.
Thank you for all the help!! :tears_of_joy::thumb:

I received a answer from the company that did all the work on the engine.
They basically deny that they did something wrong.
According to them, this "newer type" alternator doesn't require to have the sensing lead connected. They never connect them.
The cooling hoses were not swapped by them, they changed the water pump without removing the hoses...
Shift interrupter was connected and working when the boat was in the shop. Strange as the white/green cable was loose and had to be connected with the stud and splitter cables that they left over from the kit that comes with the ignition module (87-892150).
don't know what to say :noidea:

That's why we do our own work. The only person you can trust is yourself... As you have a vested interest in getting it done right.
