I have a 1970 60hp Evinrude with electric shift. Does this take a different type of gear oil? I just got the boat and changed the lube using regular lower unit oil. Ran the boat twice, shifts fine.

You need OMC "Type C " also known as "OMC Premium Blend " ,Do NOT use any other oil.

Now with the Bombardier logo/name + Johnson/Evinrude, still Premium Blend .

Re: Electric shift, gear lube?

I was told (yesterday) at the marina to not worry about finding the proper lube if my unit was shifting ok. They said the demand for the electric shift oil is so low that they no longer carry it. They also said that the electric shift oil is just a little thinner than normal lower unit lube. What are the problems associated with using normal lower unit oil? Should I worry? Thanks
