In the process of rebuilding the powerhead on my 1997 - 175 HP Ocean Runner I discovered a 1/8" hose barb fitting that I don't believe had a hose attached when I disassembled the engine.. It's located adjacent to the rectifier/regulator starboard side of the engine block and goes directly into the water coolant cavity. Can someone explain this fitting. Thanks and have a Happy New Year.

It doesn't go to a water cavity. It's part of your oil recirculation system. Go to shop.evinrude.com, look up your crankcase and look for parts 7 and 9.

This single fitting is larger than item 7. I can insert a wire about 3 or 4 inches until it reaches the rectifier/regulator fins.

Is this fitting actually on the block or is it on the head? If it's on the head it's most likely the fitting for a water pressure gage.

It's in the block very close to the top surface where the rectifier is mounted. It could.very well be for water flow confirmation or pressure gague. I'll get photos tomorrow.

Gee, if you would have posted this a couple of weeks ago, I could have looked at my motor. It is now inaccessible under the winter cover, cover support etc. The manual doesn't seem to mention it.

This is extra cooling for rect/reg and the pre 1996 motors do not have it. It attaches to another barb below starboard head on block.
