I have a "new to me" 1994 Evinrude 150 outboard model E150ELERV, serial G03615736. The timing is set at 2 degrees ATDC at idle advancing to 28 degrees BTDC at 5000 rpm. Is this correct? If not, then what should it be?

Re: 1994 Evinrude 150 timing settings

Have you checked the top dead center pointer with the piston stop tool, to insure it indicates top dead center? Specs are idle timing 6 +- 1 ATDC degrees, maximun advance timing 20 +- 1 degrees. The idle is set by changing idle timing so idle timing could be 4 degrees ATDC, much more then this, then you have other problems, dirty carbs, air leak, incorrect link/sync. These timing specs are set static engine using the dippy box that plugs into the sensor, Bomberdier sells for about 300.00. I would think it would be same with light. Dont forget if you are checking with a light, the engine must be at operating temps and out of Quick Start.
