Hey guys. Never been in the bottom end of a motor this old. I would imagine it's not to far from any other impeller replacement. 4 bolts, unhook shift linkage, impeller removal etc. The impeller bolts have got me wondering if there gonna play ball or if it has to be done the hard way? Any tips and comments could help. Thanks

On that motor, there is a pin through the top end of the drive shaft. It has to come down through a slot in the housing. If you just force it off, you will break the pin off. So.....
Remove spark plugs
Unbolt the lower unit
Drop the lower unit down till something stops you. Rotate the flywheel till the pin aligns with the slot and the lower unit will come down further
Disconnect the shift rod
Continue to remove the lower unit

NOTE: once the pin comes down through the slot, do not rotate the flywheel again so it will be aligned for reinstallation. And when you get the lower unit off, note the position of the pin so you can put it back the same way for reinstallation.
