impellor?

A motor I'm testing is running a little hot - no temp gauge ... just can't keep my hand on it too long after a good run. I took the impellor housing out and to my surprise the impellor is as close to new as a person could want. I did notice however that one of the vanes was curved in the wrong direction - is that enough to cause the overheating issue or should I be looking at a new thermostat?

It should flip that vane over when you run it. But evidently it didn't. So yes that could be the problem. That's a third of the pump not working properly.

My 1983 60hp Johnson was the same way when I purchased it. Flipped the wrong one the right direction and it pumped water just fine.

Yep, did the trick. After a 15 minute run I could keep my finger on the motor for a good 5 count. Thanks guys!
