48 Johnson lose power

I have a 1996 johnson 48,runs good at low speed,up to 3000rpms. after that, at higher rpms it will not power up. just a little spirt, and back down to around 3000rpms.Fuel problems? don.

One likely suspect is a failing fuel pump, dmill1. As the diaphrams weaken the volume pumped decreases. A fuel pump kit is not expensive and is easy to install.<br /><br />Another, less likely possibility is a failure to advance the ignition timing beyond a certain point. Eyeball the throttle/ignition timing linkage as you advance the throttle and see that there is full range movement.<br /><br />Finally, your ignition system can be breaking down at any point from the stator to the plugs. Troubleshooting that requires a book, or someone more expert than me.<br /><br />Hope this helps.<br />JB
