I have a 1967 15hp Evinrude(Canadian model) and I keep getting water in the lower unit.Is this usually from the upper or lower seal?Any tips on changing it and are individual parts for lower units available? If I changed the oil after each use, would it be OK to still use it?I dont get out too often so it wouldnt get too much exposure. Thanks for any help.

Re: 15hp Evinrude

Howdy, Rick. When I have run onto this problem on small fishing motors the most common cause is the propshaft seal having been eaten up by discarded monofilament that got onto the prop, which wound it tight on the shaft. Pull your prop and check it out. Any OMC dealer can sell you a new seal, but you have to overhaul the lower end to replace it. Get a book (I like the Clymer books) or give it to a pro. Always pull your prop after a fishing trip and remove the mono that is almost sure to be there.

Good luck.
JB
