I'm new to my 73 65hp Evinrude. I do not see any water spewing out any small holes indicating that the water pump is working. Does this model have any tell-tale holes?

Also, under the thermostat housing I have the thermostat and 2 springs pressing on 2 plastic valves. What are these 2 plastic valves for. The tension on the springs seem so great that I couldn't image water pressure opening the valves. what are they for?

Thanks

Pressure relief valve. Engine should operate between 125º and 163º as measured on the block.
Good Luck
Capt Ron

Oh, is it like a backup device to the thermostat? If the therm failes, the pressure builds up and opens the valves! Or do the relief valves operate independent of the thernostat?
