  • 1987 90hp johnson no lift hook

how can I lift my 1987 90 hp johnson motor safely with a chain hoist? It doesn't have a lifting hook like my other 110 hp motor had.

No. My motor isn't the bubble back.

You can get another flywheel nut and weld a loop on it. Remove the flywheel nut and install the modified one to lift the engine. Make sure and torque the flywheel nut when you put the standard nut back on.

The model is j90tlcur. How do boat mechanics lift it? Is there another place on the block to lift it that is safe? I don't have a torque wrench to re install the fly wheel nut.

If you look at the parts breakdown in post #2, that is for your model number.

Daviet, that's for the motor without power trim. If you look at the hook and where it mounts in the parts section it tells you. I have a what looks like a voltage regulator or rectifier in that area

Wrap some rachet straps around it and pick it up that way.

All I can say is get the proper lift ring from OMC. You won't drop the motor and nobody will get hurt. Or maybe borrow or rent one from a BRP dlr.

Where does the lift ring bolt to? I can fabricate something but I need to know where to bolt it to so I don't damage the motor

The lifting device uses the 3 holes in the flywheel.-------5/16" fine thread.
