2000 evinrude 15 hp 4 stroke power pack

Have owned this motor since new. Never been very happy with it. Now it has taken to blowing out the very expensive power pack. Bad luck or deeper problem? Last one only lasted 5 hrs. Now on power pack number 3. Any ideas?

I just looked up the cost of that pack Whew!! If it was my motor I'd get rid of it as a lot of parts are becoming NLA for it. JMHO.
