My brother just bought a really clean lightwin for $80 from the local marina. He was told it was a trade in from someone who found it in a garage. The marina ran it and said it ran fine but they told him to run it on 50:1  I didnt know about this until after he bought it, I havent run it yet but am planning on trying it out tomorrow. Does anyone think it was hurt from being run on this mixture? It doesnt sound like it was run for too long, ill try to get all the old gas out and put in some fresh 16:1. I just cant believe that the morons at the marina didnt know these old motors cant take 50:1

Run it on the16:1. If it smokes really bad, go to 24:1. Make sure you use tcw 3 oil in it.

If it isn't siezed or hasn't thrown a rod, it looks like it dodged a bullet. Stick to boobie's oil recommendation.

Im new to the 3 horse motors I have a 55 7.5 are the starting points for the needles the same on the two? I troll a lot with my 7.5 and run 16:1 it never seems to carbon up or anything so im sure 16:1 will be fine for this one too. Just hope those idiots didnt shorten its life

Out boards and oil are like horses and water. Too much does no harm, too little could be fatal.

They actually run BETTER with the 16:1 mixture due to their design. Too lean a mixture will not give the same sealing that it requires for the best idle.

So we took it out today it was about 40 degrees out, took forever to get it to start, then it ran on choke for awhile, finally got it off choke, got the low speed adjustment worked out, but I could never get it to run 100% on the high speed jet. we cruised around for a bit, then it started acting funny again and needing the choke to run. we limped it back and by the end it would run in short bursts while I played with the choke. Any thoughts anyone?

Clean the carb and put a new kit in it. Also check the fuel filter in the tank. Edit: I feel for you folks in Stevens Point. I'm originally from Minocqua, but no more.

Fuel filter and the line, ensure it is clear and sound.

On a side note, ignition updated?

yeah we're supposed to get snow flurries tomorrow. Could the cold weather have made it run this way? I havent checked on the ignition yet can i see it without pulling the flywheel? The guys at the marina said to take it back if it didnt run right, should i see if they would do a carb rebuild and tune up for free and save myself the headache? Although im not sure i should trust them considering they said it ran strong and had no problems.
