Hello Gents,

My 1969 evinrude is running great. the only problem i have is when i put it in reverse you hear it go in and feel it pull at idle but when you idle it up it sounds like it is not fully in gear. I am still learning about these engines. I have years of pratice on cars but i am learning that outboards are oranges and not apples. any info would be great.

What kind of oil do you have in the lower unit?? It should be type C or premium blend.

Very important to know before giving advice: What size of a 1969 Evinrude motor do you have? The 40hp works entirely different than the larger motors.

It is a 85 hp. Where do you find the oil for the foot?

Any BRP dlr, maybe Wal-mart or West Marine. Just make sure it's premium blend or type C.

we'll went to change it today and found that there is water in the oil. It looks like the seal behind the prob is leaking because with the engine not sitting up oil started leaking out from behind the prop. Is this a seal that is hard to replace?
