Hey guys,

I Have 56 javelin and am looking to convert to a single fuel line. Any chance you guys might share the details about how to do this? I grew up with a 1956 30 on the back of a 1955 Larson Crestliner. I have recently restored the boat for my kids and looking to put the Javelin on it for them.

Here are some picks of the boat.

Hi Littlebuddy12. Welcome to iboats. Cool toy you got there! She's a beaut and so is the motor. We've had quite a few old Javelins pop up in the forums here lately. Here are some handy links that may help. There are some other folks here in the forums who have also done the conversion that can help to answer any other question you may have. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Very nice little boat. My '57 Big Twin would look nice on that too :D

There is a huge line of Mikuni fuel pumps that will closely match factory, as far as fule line hook ups, mounting and appearance. You could remove one of your bypass covers and bore and tap, for the pulsator line and of course, the other two connections are pretty much self axpainitory. Go to ebay and just type Mikuni fuel pumps and you'll find enough pages and styles to keep you reading all day. All you need is a simple three line type for your motor.
This type, looks to be a close match for what you would use for your motor.

Or this type.

Generally speaking, this is an easy conversion. What I am not sure of, is if the '56 model has the bosses for drilling/tapping to accept a fuel pump.

Also, lots of folks like the Mikunis, because they tend to be less expensive than the BRP units. If you want to go with "factory parts," however, you can use the dealer supplied item. Another option is to purchase from Sierra - you can probably get a suitable Sierra unit right here at iboats.

I have a post somewhere here on iboats, which describes a couple of mounting possibilities. The post was based on two conversions that I did - both to 1958 Bigtwins. I'll see if I can find it and post a link, if I do.

You will also need a single line fuel connector for the motor side. These are easily found.

Other things to note, after tapping the bypass cover for a fuel barb (do this OFF the motor) run a few inches of line off the old pressure barb and plug it with a bolt or something else suitable. I would NOT try to modify the intake manifold, no matter what you read online.

I have used a number of different pumps, and cant really say Ive found a "bad" one to date. Just depends if you want to go aftermarket like Mikuni or Briggs or go with a factory style pump. F_R makes an adaptor plate on this forum if you want to go that route.

No the '56 Javelin does not have the bosses present. A quick remedy for this is to purchase an adaptor plate from F_R to accomodate for this if you decide to go with a 2 nipple pump such as an OEM or Sierra.

Thanks HT - that's what I thought.

PS: I tried to find my old post but couldn't. It seems the iboats search engine won't go back far enough for the time period in which I made the post.

Oddly enough, Duckworks suggests this in their conversions, but I agree with you Chris. A friend of mine tried it and it didn't work out very well, on his 18. Like you suggest, pull the bypass cover off and drill and tap it, for a fuel line barb.

Wow. Boy am I jealous! Your boat looks awesome - when it comes time to paint the steering wheel I'll hit you up for tips. Let me know how your conversion goes because I may be doing the same thing. Thanks!
