electric primers

Does anyone happen to know if the electric primer (choke coil unit with the red override lever) on Johnson outboards are all the same or were there many different types. Basically I need to find out if the one off my 1986 70 hp will work on a 2000 50 hp. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Go to shop.evinrude.com and look up the part #'s for both mtrs. That should tell you something.

It should work the same, they have the same parts inside such as plunger etc, the main difference is just that the whole units are listed as different part #s probably because the outside fittings if anything may be slightly different.
The replacement model for the two motors is the same unit so theres nothing really that different that is required between them. I cant see anything difference worth buying a replacement for
