I seem to have bitten off more than I can chew here.

I am a newbie when it comes to motors and am learning a lot from the pages posted here. I was reading Max Wawrzyniak - St Louis, Missouri - USA Bringing a 1956 Johnson 15 hp Back to Life, and decided that I should check out the impeller on my 1957 Johnson Seahorse. I took it all apart and the impeller looks fine, but I noticed that the oil retainer seal (P/N 302545) below it was not in great shape - not surprising since the bearings on the prop shaft were severely rusted. I got replacement bearings which have gone in fine, however I took the upper seal out, but cannot find a replacement. Any ideas on where I can get replacements?

It was a struggle to get the part out, ie i could only get it out in pieces. Can you recommend how to put the seal in again assuming I can get a replacement.

If you run into trouble send me a PM.

Clean out the housing. I like to add a little 3M 847 to the circumfrence of the seal. Use a socket of the same size and drive it in evenly. Simple and easy.
